RELASI RANCANGAN KOTA DAN ANARKI WARGA

Abstract

Recent days, there are occurrences caused by citizen’s behavior called as anarchy in urban space, which is destructive, criminal, arrogant-judging, and other behaviors that ignore either the authority or other people around. It seems like there are no regulated law and ignorance against the authority, which causes anarchism becoming negative-label connotation that frightens other citizens. Several anarchy incidents happened in big cities in Indonesia are demonstration effort causing chaos, crime done by teenagers like motorbike gang, inter-student groups dispute, and vandalism. The question is upon what kind of relation do the citizen’s anarchy phenomenon and the urban design have? The characteristic of anarchy occurs from the depressed feeling of the citizen. The feeling is worsened when they live in the urban environment whereas the urban design does not accommodate the people’s desire to express their depressed feeling.As the consequence, in the time of the opportunity to express the feeling appears,the anarchy action also appears as the form of mass celebration against the misery experienced years. The paper discusses issues upon the relation between urban design and phenomenon of the citizen’s anarchy occurrence that happens recently, especially in Indonesian big cities
