Abstract

Memahami Interaksi Alumnus Erasmus Mundus dalam Organisasi Multinasional (Kajian Kompetensi Komunikasi Antarbudaya Paska Mobilitas) ABSTRAKSI Mobilitas ke luar negeri sebagai penerima beasiswa Erasmus Mundus (EM) memberi pengalaman dan pengetahuan keragaman budaya individualistik. Beberapa karakter masyarakat tersebut memberi kenyamanan bagi alumnus dan kembali diaplikasikan dalam organisasi multinasional di Indonesia. Namun tidak semua nilai budaya bisa dipraktekkan, karena tidak sesuai dengan budaya organisasi atau kultur setempat. Menarik untuk mengetahui, bagaimana pengalaman EM muncul dalam interaksi dan pengelolaan facework di organisasi multinasional sehingga menjadi kompetensi komunikasi antarbudaya paska periode pertukaran pelajar? Tujuan yang ingin dicapai dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menjelaskan pengalaman EM yang muncul dalam praktik komunikasi antarbudaya, menjadi faktor ketegangan dialektika relasional, dan mempengaruhi pengelolaan facework alumnus pada lingkungan kerja multinasional paska mobilitas. Dalam tataran teori, permasalahan dan tujuan penelitian dikaji dengan Teori Dialektika Relasional, Facework, dan Effective Intercultural Workgroup. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode fenomenologi demi mendeskripsikan pandangan subjek penelitian. Subjek penelitian adalah para alumnus penerima beasiswa EM yang bekerja dalam lingkungan multinasional. Bagi subjek, organisasi menjadi sarana interaksi antarbudaya dan mobilitas internasional. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pengalaman mobilitas mengembangkan kompetensi komunikasi antarbudaya subjek. Ketika berinteraksi dalam organisasi multinasional, akibat bauran kultur di dalamnya, terjadi potensi masalah komunikasi antarbudaya berupa anggapan terhadap strangers dan berimplikasi pada adanya dialektika relasional yang dialami subjek. Benturan budaya tersebut disikapi dengan respon berupa facework positif yang diupayakan tetap mengintegrasi anggota organisasi. Sikap saling empati, mindful, dan menghormati nilai kultural satu sama lain itulah yang menciptakan budaya organisasi yang kondusif, positif, dan nyaman. Era globalisasi menciptakan kompetisi dan mobilitas internasional tinggi. Diperlukan jaringan dan lingkungan yang dapat menunjang pendidikan atau karir hingga luar negeri, seperti organisasi multinasional. Bukan sekedar bahasa asing, namun kompetensi komunikasi antarbudaya juga penting demi mewujudkan interaksi yang efektif. Understanding the Interaction of the Erasmus Mundus Alumni in Multinational Organization (Study of Post-Mobility Intercultural Communication Competence) ABSTRACT As beneficiaries of Erasmus Mundus (EM), mobility abroad provides experience and knowledge of cultural diversity. Alumni interests and lives in some characters of individualistic culture. However, not all cultural values can be practiced, because it does not fit with organization or local culture. It is interesting to know, how does the experience of EM appeared in the interaction and facework management thus becoming intercultural communication competence in post-mobility student at multinational organizations? The aim of this study is to describe the experience of EM that emerged in the practice of intercultural communication, be a relational dialectic tension factors, and affect alumnus management facework in the multinational working environment after mobility. At the level of theory, problems and research objectives studied with Relational Dialectics Theory, Facework, and Effective Intercultural Workgroup. This study uses a phenomenological method in order to describe the view of research subjects. The subjects were alumni of EM who are working in a multinational environment. For subjects, the organization becomes a media for intercultural interaction and international mobility. The results shows mobility develops subjects’ intercultural communication competence. Interaction within multinational organization, due to mix culture in it, causes potential problems in the form of presumption to strangers and relational dialectic as its implication for subjects. Those mix cultures or gaps are responded through positive facework as an effort to keep on integrating organization members. Empathy, mindful, and respect others cultural value creates organization culture as positive and comfort. Globalization creates competition and high international mobility. It requires network and environment that can support educational or career to overseas, such as multinational organization. Not only foreign languages, but also intercultural communication competence is important in order to realize effective interaction.
