Abstract
Background Pain of breast tumors postoperative trigger the stress response called neuro endocrine response which effected on mortality and morbidity of various postoperative complications. Indicators used to measure the degree of pain are Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) by asking patients about the degree of pain. Morphine from an opioid group is the main analgesic which can reduce the effects of post-operative pain, but has the side effects of respiratory depression. Ketorolac from the group of NSAIDs often used to treat acute postoperative pain and has no side effects of respiratory depression. Objective Examined the effects of using morphine compared to ketorolac to the value of VAS in patients with postoperative breast tumor under general anesthesia. Method This research used descriptive analytic design with cross sectional method. Samples were taken by purposive sampling and the data obtained from the medical records of 24 people who use morphine as an analgesic postoperative and data from the medical records of 24 people with the use of ketoralac as analgesic in postoperative of a breast tumor under general anesthesia which assessed using VAS in September-December, 2014. Unpaired T-test and Mann-Whitney test used for statistical analysis. Results Comparison of the VAS between the treatment of morphine and ketorolac obtained meaningful or significant differences in the value of significance (p <0.005), p value on the clock to-0 = 0.001, 6th hour = 0.006, hour-12 = 0.000 and the 24th hour = 0,000. Conclusion There is a statistically significant difference between VAS values provided by morphine group and ketorolac group on the breast tumor postoperative. Key words: VAS, morphine, ketorolac, postoperative pain of breast tumors
