Abstract

Regional proximity and the rapid progress of economic development in the City of Semarang increases the people mobility from Kendal Regency to Semarang City. Consequently, asound and an adequate transportation system arerequired in order to support the population mobility from Kendal to Semarang. The inter-city and in-province bus or “Bus Antar Kota Dalam Provinsi (AKDP)” with the route from Semarang-Kendal and vice versa is one of the transportation types in which available for that route. The existence of AKDP Bus becomes an important alternative for the people who have regular activities between Semarang-Kendal and vice versa. This research aims to analyze people’s preferences in using the service of Semarang-Kendal AKDP Bus in order to support their daily-life activities. This study uses survey approach to find out the people’s preferences in choosing Semarang-Kendal AKDP Bus. Accordingly, to investigate the determinant of the people’s preferences in choosing Semarang-Kendal AKDP Bus, this study uses regression with Ordinary Least Square (OLS) approach. The results of this study show that the travel fare, the bus safety, the bus comfort, and the timeliness of the bus significantly affect the people’s preferences in choosing Semarang-Kendal AKDP Bus. On the other hand, there is no evidence that people’s income affects their preferences in choosing Semarang-Kendal AKDP Bus
