Abstract
Background: Neonatal sepsis is a clinical syndrome of systemic disease due to infection bacteremia invasive and generally occur in infants of the first month of life . Early onset neonatal sepsis occurs in 48-72 hours after birth and most important cause of morbidity and mortality in preterm infants. Aims: To prove that prolonged rupture of membrane, infection during pregnancy, sosioeconomic status, fetal distress, birth weight, and apgar score have influence in early onset neonatal sepsis in preterm infants. Methods: A case control study, using medical records as sample. Sample consisted of 50 preterm neonates with early onset neonatal sepsis as case group and 50 preterm neonates without sepsis as control group in Dr. Kariadi Hospital Semarang on January 2013 – December 2014. Sample were chosen by consecutive sampling techniques. Statistical analysis used were Chi-Square and logistic regression analysis Results: It was found that apgar score at 1 minute (p=0,024) and apgar score at 5 minute (p=0,032) were factors that significantly correlated. There are 36 neonates with low apgar score at 1 minute (59%). Premature rupture of membrane, infection during pregnancy, sosioeconomic status, fetal distress and birth weight was not correlated to early onset neonatal sepsis in preterm infants. After multivariate analysis was conducted, the apgar score became not significantly correlated with early onset neonatal sepsis in preterm infants. Conclusion: Premature rupture of membrane, infection during pregnancy, sosioeconomic status, fetal distress, birth weight and apgar score had no correlation to early onset neonatal sepsis in preterm infants. Keywords: sepsis, preterm neonates
