Abstract
Background: Consuming high dose of MSG may damage liver. MSG increases oxidative stress and causing hepatocellular injury. Hepatocellular injury marked by increased transaminases serum. Honey has antioxidant properties. Honey may attenuate MSG induced hepatocellular injury. Aim: Study the effect of honey on Wistar rats's liver function which induced by MSG. Methods: This study was a true experimental study with post test randomized controlled group design. 32 samples assigned into 4 groups. K1 given standars feed, K2 given standard feed and 6 mg/g BW/day of MSG. P1 given standard feed, 6 mg/g BW/day of MSG, and 2 g/day of honey, P2 given standard feed, 6mg/g BW/day of MSG, and 4 g/day of honey for 30 days. Results: MSG increases SGOT level on MSG induced group. Haney lower SGOT level. MSG induced groups have lower SGPT level compared to control. Haney lower SGOT level. There was no difference in SGPT level between groups (p=0.769). There was no difference in SGOT level between groups (p=0.842). Conclusions: MSG consumption increase rat's SGOT and SGPT level. Honey treatment did not significanly decrease rat's SGOT and SGPT level. Keywords: MSG, honey, SGOT, SGPT.
