Abstract

Central Java and Yogyakarta is an area that is projected for the sharia tourism development. Creative industries can develope sharia tourism in these two areas. However, a lack of awareness of the potential of sharia tourism makes this industry becoming less developed in these two areas. The purpose of the Student Creativity Program-Research is analyzing the potential for sharia tourism in Central Java and Yogyakarta and the role of creative industries in its development. The method was used in this research is descriptive analysis by doing of interviews and questionnaires. Results of the study show that shari'a tourism in Central Java and Yogyakarta are potential. However, sharia tourism is interpreted as religious tourism. For the development of sharia tourism, the creative industries should play a role as a pillar of sharia tourism in terms of planning, publicity, package, and determination of tourist destinations. Finally, sharia tourism needs reconstruction on the guidelines of sharia tourism can be our recommendations . These guidelines are important because it will become the standard for tourism stakeholders in defining the sharia tourism.
