Abstract
ABSTRACT Hot Rolled Sheet (HRS) is one of the suitable mixture used in tropical region of Indonesia because of its high flexibility and hold of plastic melting. The main characteristic of HRS is its gap gradation. The most important of HRS are asphalt mixture, fine aggregate and filler, where few coarse aggregates inside. Some pavement contruction industries prefer to use local material or materials that could be found easily is eeded as alternative material, either used separately or combined with other material. Refer to this problem, it is neccesary to examine the use of roof- tile dust as filler material concerning to performance of HRS WC. Mixed design used is HRS WC design with New Specification of Hotmix Asphalt Concrete, published by Department of Settlement and Regional Infrastructure (August 2001) .The objective of this research is to study the influence of roof tile dust as filler in HRS WC mixture concerning to Marshall characteristic, i.e. Void in the Mineral Aggregate (VMA), Void In the Mix (VIM), Void Filled with Asphalt (VFA), Stability, Flow, Marshall Quotient, Density and Index of Retained Strength (IRS).Filler variation planne the combination between rock dust filler and roof tile dust filler based on weight proportion respectively 100% rock dust, 75% rock dust + 25 % roof- tile dust, 50 % rock dust + 50% roof tile dust, 25% rock dust + 75% roof- tile dust and 100% roof- tile dust. The result shows that all of HRS WC mixture with filler composition fulfills the terms of VIM, VMA, VFA, Stability, Flow, MQ, Density, and IRS which are established with New Specification of Hotmix Asphalt Concrete, published by Department of Settlement and Regional Infrastructure (August 2001). The use of a part or a whole of roof tile dust filler in HRS WC mixture can increase the optimum asphalt content, if it compared with rock dust filler. That result shows that absorption of roof- tile dust is better than rock dust filler. The lowest stability value in mixture is use filler 100% of roof tile dust (988,79 kg)and the highest in mixture which use filler 100% (1204,35 kg). While the lowest flow value in mixture which use filler 100% of rock dust (3,025mm) and the highest in mixture which use filler 50% rock dust and 50% roof tile dust (4,4 mm). Mixture flow value in 7% asphalt content tends to increase too simultaneously with decreasing of rock dust filler and increasing roof tile dust filler gradually. That’s all goes to prove that increasing of flow value was caused by decreasing rock dust filler and increasing roof tile dust gradually was caused by increasing asphalt content, too. Density value tends to decrease due to rock dust filler and increasing roof tile dust filler. The lowest density value of filler 100% of roof tile dusts (2,304 gr/cc) and the highest density value in mixture which use filler 100% rock dusts (2,350 gr/cc). Mixture density value with filler composition in 7% asphalt content tends to decrease with decreasing rock dust filler and increasing roof tille dust filler gradually too. These result show that besides decreasing of rock dust filler and increasing roof tile dust filler gradually, increasing of asphalt content, decreasing of density value, too. HRS WC mixture with
