Abstract
This study aims to analyze probability of choice and indentify the factors that influence an individual choice beetwen vocational and general education in upper secondary school. This study add new evidence of school choice in the same level. This study specified in East Indonesia during 2012. Vocational education in high school has frequently been stigmatized as a last choice, and not prestige. Meanwhile, vocational education preparing students and aims to equip them with specialised technical skill that are deemed essentials for jobs that require specialised skill. Vocational education also reduce unemployment. Using data of Indonesia Family Life Survey(IFLS) East 2012, we build probit model to test probability. The result of this study show that an individual and household characteristic can affect to school choice. Household income and household location significantly influence a students to attend vocational school in this study.
