Abstract

This thesis titled information seeking behavior of blind users in the library of MTs YAKETUNIS Yogyakarta. The purpose of this research was to determine how did information seeking behavior of library blind users in MTs LB / A YAKETUNIS, what type of information which is accessed by the blind visitors and what kind of media which is used to search information in the library of MTs LB / A YAKETUNIS Yogyakarta. The theory used in this study using the theory of David Ellis about information search behavior and the methods used in this research is qualitative descriptive research. The results of the research that has been conducted shows that, (1) Stages of information seeking behavior performed by the blind visitors starts from the starting to go directly to the rack searcher printed using Braille or searching on a computer with the help of JAWS, browsing by using the search engine Google or access particular website portal with the help of software JAWS, differentiating by selecting the information most relevant results, extracting useful to retrieve information on a particular website, until the ending phase by utilizing the information they receive and share the latest information to other friends; (2) the type of informations that used by the blind users are printed and non-printed, generally related to the academic needs such as textbooks, Koran braille, as well as non-academic needs such as magazines, novels and gema braille; and (3) the medias which used by the blind users to access the information are Braille labels and JAWS software as tools to access the non-print information in the internet and off line information which availabel in the computer self
