Abstract
This research is entitled “Information Needs Fulfilment of @kompascom Twitter Followers: Descriptive Analysis of Humanity Faculty, Diponegoro University Students Year 2014” and aims to find out the motivation of Twitter users to follow the Twitter handle @kompascom, the information needs and information needs fulfilment, and also the interaction between the users and the Twitter handle @kompascom. The basic theories applied to support this research are Abraham Maslow’s basic human needs theory and TD Wilson’s information needs theory. This research is a qualitative research and the type of research is descriptive. The methods used for data collection are observation, interview, documentation, and Twitter research tools. The informants in this research are six active students of Faculty of Humanity, Diponegoro University in 2014. The collected data are analysed through the steps of Miles and Huberman’s data analysis. The analysis results show the motivation of informants to follow the Twitter handle @kompascom includes the needs for information on the matters of their interest, such as information on politics, travelings, and football. The Twitter handle @kompascom distributes the content of Kompas site (http://kompas.com) on various topics and is the main Twitter handle chosen by the informants to access the information content of Kompas site and fulfil their information needs. However, informants still follow other informative Twitter handles to add options of information source that they consumed. Informants do not enggage themselves in close interaction to the Twitter handle @kompascom outside of clicking on the links and reading the linked articles
