PERKEMBANGAN KOMUNITAS PERPUSTAKAAN DALAM PERPUSTAKAAN SWADAYA MASYARAKAT: STUDI KASUS PERPUSTAKAAN LEMBAGA SWADAYA MASYARAKAT (LSM) GANESA DI SUKOHARJO JAWA TENGAH

Abstract

The title of the research “The Development of Library Community in Non-governmental Library: Case Study Ganesa NGO Library in Sukoharjo, Central Java.” The purpose of this study is to understand the process of the establishment of the library and the formation of communities that exist within it. This is qualitative descriptive research form of case studies.Informants were selected by purposive sampling amounted to eleven people. Technique of data collection used were observation, interview, triangulation, and documentation. The results showed that the factors driving the establishment of the Ganesa NGO library as a non-governmental library is unmet information needs of the community and idealism of the founders of that ease of access to the library to improve the welfare of society. Ganesa NGO Library managed by leaders who emphasize the principle out of the box and engage the community as a volunteer. Ganesa NGO library has a unique system that is the existence of library communities to gather and share information. Some library community was formed at the initiative of managers and proposals from members of the community. The existence of a community can be known by many people through a chain of information is from friend to friend. By following the activities of the community, members get benefits include: self-development, increase self-confidence, to relate other members who come from various backgrounds, and increase tolerance in give opinions. The existence of the library community have an impact on increasing the interest of visits to the library. Constraints faced by libraries in the process of procurement of books imported from abroad to do with bureaucracy and a lack of discipline by user. The constraints experienced by the community is a difference of opinion between the library and the community members about community membership system. In order to make the library more comfortable, the library building plans to further expand and complement the library facilities.
