PERILAKU PENCARIAN INFORMASI MELALUI INTERNET OLEH JURNALIS LEMBAGA PERS MAHASISWA (LPM) "DIMENSI" DI POLITEKNIK NEGERI SEMARANG

Abstract

This research titled “Information Searching Behavior through the Internet by student Press Agency Dimensi in Semarang State Polytechnic". This research is motivated by the result of the survey Maverick Company that showed 91% of Indonesian Journalists rely on the internet in searching news and seven of ten journalists get the idea of making news from internet. The problem formulations of this research are: 1) what kind information are sought through the internet by the jo urnalist of student Press Agency "Dimensi" Semarang State Polytechnic? 2) How the information seeking behavior through the internet by journalists of Student Press Agency “Dimensi” Semarang State Polytechnic? And 3) what the constraints are experienced by the journalist of Student Press Agency “Dimensi" Semarang State Polytechnic when searching for the information in the internet? This research used a qualitative research design with case study research. Data was collected by the way of structured interviews. Informants in this research consists of four people. Data analysis was performed by using data analysis Miles and Huberman. The results of this research show that information that are sought by the journalists of Student Press Agency “Dimensi” Semarang State Polytechnic in the internet are the information that related with art and magazine theme. Journalist sought the information in internet use some ways; they are seeking in search engine, seeking in URL, and by click thumbnails in browser home page. Some journalists have done a search strategy by utilizing the search engine. After finding the information, things that done by the journalists are saving web or pictures that obtained, memorizing web that visited, and giving mark bookmark in the web that are considered important. Some journalists have evaluated searching information in internet. Things that done by the journalists when they did not find information in internet is by searching in other information sources, it is magazine. The problems that faced by the journalists when searching for the information in the internet is finding an empty web and contained advertisements, the journalist often found web that discuss magazine theme only from one point of view, information searching access that stopped (hank) caused to much open web pages, information access that is limited caused finding login command with username in a web, and constraints in formulate information that needed into query.
