Abstract

ABSTRACT Large amount of waste accumulation at waste disposal area has caused environmental pollution to the area surround it. The pollution come from the leachate, especially in the area with a great rainfall intensity and with a hight water table. The environment around the waste diposal area has a great heavy metal contamination risk such as Pb and Cr. One of the solution too reduce the heavy metal contaminant is by using alum and ferric chloride as a coagulant throught a coagulation-flocculation process. The aim of the study is to know the optimum dose of alum and ferric chloride and the variation of floc deposition time too reduce Pb and Cr concentration of Jatibarang’s waste disposal area has caused leachate. Jartest is used in coagulation-flocculation process with the addition of alum and ferric chloride coagulant with the variation of floc deposition time and a certain dose, and then the sample is measured by using AAS. The result showed the optimum dose of alum to reduce the concentration of Pb and Cr is 1250 mg /l while ferric chloride is 1000 mg / l. The Optimum deposition time using alum ass coagulant too reduce concentration of Pb is 30 minutes and Cr 20 minutes. The opptimum deposition time when using ferric chloride as a coagulant to reduce the concentrations of Pb and Cr is 30 minutes.
