Abstract

The study investigated the effectiveness of multimedia learning in the form of workshops. The models chosen for the workshops were the Jigsaw and Group Investigation cooperative learning models. The two models differ by means of leaners grouping in which the first uses a two step grouping in while the second uses one step grouping. The Topsis method was used to determine the achievement of groups’ performances. The issues under study were which model proved to be more effective and which group performed the best. To find out the answers an experimental study was conducted to the third semester mathematics undergraduate (S1) students of FPMIPA IKIP PGRI Semarang in the academic year of 2012-2013. Two classes of 25 students each were involved in the study, each was treated with the Jigsaw and the Group Investigation respectively. From the works of the two groups the row scores were collected as the data to be statistically analysed using the T-test to compare the effectiveness of the two workshop types. The Topsis method was used to rank the two groups’working performances from the lowest to the highest. Visual Basic version 6.0 and MySQL softwares were employed for the Topsis method application. The study indicated that the Jigsaw cooperative learning model was more effective than the Group Investigation for the multimedia learning workshop. By using the Topsis method there was one best group from each of the Jigsaw and Group Investigation classes.
