Abstract

ABSTRACT The high level of abrasion and the trend development that led to the exploitation of mangrove forests for infrastructure development, housing and industry in coastal Demak impact on environmental degradation of coastal ecosystems which resulted in a number of mangrove forest areathe wane even damaged. This study aims to assess the condition of vegetation and mangrove environment in the mangrove areas Tambaksari using descriptive analytic research methods through a quantitative approach that can provide information about potential and sustainable management of mangrove forests. The results showed Tambaksari is a coastal mangrove forest which has an area of 23 ha in fairly good condition with identification of mangrove species found Avicennia marina, Rhizophora stylosa and Rhizophora mucronata. Sampling 1 (the shoreline) to be the most ideal habitat for the development of particular mangrove seedlings and saplings.Total density of mangrove vegetation to the category tree, sapling and seedling species Avicennia marina dominated classified in good condition (very solid) according the Kep Men LH No. 201 of 2004 on standard criteria and guidelines for the determination of mangrove destruction in the range of high-quality environment that indicate environmental conditionsaccording to the characteristics forgrowth and adaptation of mangrove species Avicennia sp and Rhizophora sp. Mangrove environmental quality conditions can affect the zonation of mangrove species that dominate, so it can be taken into consideration in an mangrove management effort to reduce abrasion through mangrove rehabilitation activities with cooperation among stakeholders and and the local community. Keywords : Mangrove ecosystem, Tambaksari Region, Mangrove environment quality
