Abstract
ABSTRACT Management of coastal resources for aquaculture need to consider its sustainability by the application of silvofishery system. This research aimed to study the the effect of silvofishery application to the environment quality and growth of cultured shrimp in Semarang coastal area. Data collection was conducted through experiment involving silvofishery pond with mangrove vegetation Avicennia and Rhizophora and ordinary pond (without vegetation) as comparison. Data was analyzed descriptively and statistical analysis was conducted through Anova. The result showed that there were differences on the environment condition on the silvofishery pond with mangrove vegetation Avicennia, Rhizophora and without vegetation. Observation result showed that silvofishery system provide positive effect on the pond environmnet quality. Rhizophora was concerned as mangrove vegetation which has the best influence to optimize the environment quality. Silvofishery pond provide better growth of shrimp culture, while mangrove vegetation which provide the highest growth rate on shrimp culture was Rhizophora. Shrimp growth on ordinary pond was recorded in the range of 4.1 – 8 cm with the average of 5.9 ± 0.7 cm on length and 5 – 35 gr with the average of 19.5 ± 6.5 gr for its weight. While in the pond with vegetation Avicennia the length growth was recorded in the range of 3.9 – 7.8 cm with the average of 6.3 ± 0.8 cm while the weight was ranged from 5 – 60 gr with the average of 29.3 ± 13.3 gr. In the Rhizophora pond, the length growth was recorded in the range of 5.2 – 8.7 cm with the average of 6.8 ± 0.7 cm while its weight ranged from 25 – 100 gr with the average of 49.8 ± 18.9 gr. The ANOVA test showed there were significant difference of shrimp length and weight cultured in the different pond. Keywords: silvofishery, Avicennia, Rhizophora, shrimp, growth
