Abstract
ABSTRACT In general, the existing farming system in Indonesia consists of traditional agricultural systems, conventional agricultural systems and sustainable agricultural systems. To support sustainable development, sustainable agriculture must be applied to the agricultural sector, including in paddy rice field cultivation. This is due to the negative effects of conventional agricultural systems that cause land degradation, pesticide residues, pest and disease resistance, reduced biodiversity and farmers' health problems due to the use of pesticides and other materials that pollute the environment. This study aims to assess the adoption level of sustainable agricultural systems in paddy rice cultivation in the Sub-District Ambal Kebumen Regency. The research method used is descriptive method with a quantitative approach. The research was done by using case studies. Sampling technique used snowball sampling. To measure the adoption level of sustainable agricultural systems in paddy rice cultivation used the width interval formula. The results showed that the total adoption level of sustainable agricultural system on paddy rice cultivation in Sub-District Ambal Kebumen Regency, 87.5% of the farmers were in the medium category, and 12.5% of the farmers were in the high category. The stages of paddy rice cultivation with adoption level of sustainable agricultural system in high category included the use of seed, weeding way, the pattern of water supply, irrigation, harvesting time, harvesting equipment, threshing way, and straw management. While the stages of pady rice cultivation with adoption level of sustainable agricultural system in low category included tillage system, tillage equipment, planting method, biodiversity of commodities in the field, the type of fertilizer used, the dosage of inorganic fertilizers, types of materials to control pests and diseases, and the intensity of pesticides use. Keywords: sustainable agriculture, rice, ambal, kebumen.
