Abstract
ABSTRACT Today, both “batik tulis” and “batik cap” is more likely to use synthetic dyes that the waste make environmental damage. Batik industry in Solo, Central Java has pioneered environmentally friendly production processes. Many industrialist have been switching to natural dyes and use bio ethanol as a fuel. But, using natural dyes need difficult process, much time, and large costs. The purpose of this study is measuring the rate of sustainability of some alternative natural dyes such Peltophorum pterocarpum, Terminalia belerica, Swietenia mahagony, Caesalpinia sappan, Maclura cochinchinensis, and Ceriops Tagal using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method that helped by Simapro v 7.1 software that has been updated with eco costs 2012 database. The result of LCA explain that the value of eco costs batik is Rp 19747.00/sheet. Having calculated the cost of production and selling price, the value of eco efficiency index (EEI) that used as indicator of sustainability rate of a product is 1.14 which means that natural dyes are affordable and sustainable.
