Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at Forage Crop Science Laboratory of Animal Agriculture Faculty of Diponegro University. The experiment at acid soil conditioning with level treatment T0, T1, T2 and T3 were 0; 30 kg N/ha as urea; 60 kg N/ha as urea and organic fertilizer equivalent of 4,5 % C soil organic increased. The elephant grass was planted at 50 cm x 50 cm distance between at plot experiment 3 x 4 m2. The plot experiment was applied 50 kg N/ha, 150 kg P205/ha and 150 kg K20 as basic fertilizer. The performance of growth component and herbage dry matter of elephant grass at acid soil conditioning with applied organic fertilizer more highly than urea fertilizer or none. By increased of soil organic matter at 4,5 % C organic can be increased elephant grass performance at acid soil conditioning. The responsibility of C organic matter improvement by application of organic fertilizer to performance of elephant grass at acid soil conditioning more highly than urea fertilizer. ABSTRAK Penelitian dilakukan di kebun percobaan pada Laboratorium Ilmu Tanaman Makanan Ternak Fakultas Peternakan Universitas Diponegro. Percobaan pada tanah masam mendapatkan tingkat pupuk yang terdiri dari T0, T1, T2 dan T3 adalah adalah kontrol tanpa tambahan pupuk, diberi pupuk urea setara dosis 30 kg N/ha, diberi pupuk urea setara dosis 60 kg N/ha, dan diberi pupuk organik setara 4,5 % C organik tanah. Rumput gajah ditanam dengan jarak tanan 50 cm x 50 cm pada petak percobaan 3 x 4 m2. Tanaman memperoleh pupuk dasar 50 kg N/ha, 150 kg P205/ha dan 150 kg K20. Penampilan komponen pertumbuhan dan produksi bahan kering hijauan rumput gajah pada tanah masam dengan pupuk organik lebih tinggi dibanding pupuk urea atau tanpa pemupukan. Peningkatan kandungan bahan organik tanah sampai tingkat 4,5 % C organik dapat meningkatkan penampilan rumput gajah pada tanah masam. Responsibilitas peningkatan C organik tanah dengan penerapan pupuk organik terhadap penampilan rumput gajah pada tanah masam lebih tinggi dibanding dengan pupuk urea.
