Abstract Nur Fauzan Ahmad. 2007. Orientalism (A Short Note). Nusa Vol. 2 No. 2/ September 2007 ( ). Orientalism spread, since Edward Saeid published a book about orientalism. This book gives new vision to beware that even in many things “West News” about “East” has inclination to make “East” as the other. There are three terms which have related with orientalism: orient, orientalist, orientalism. Orientalism is a study academic that west nation does from imperialist countries about East world with all of the aspects. The purpose is to create social construction of East world as wanted by West nation. The another purpose is to make study about East world which the research result can be used to increase the West nation’s career and status. Orientalism is a control which the character is hegemony. We do not need to have appriory to every orientalist which it histories maybe has close relation wit capitalism journey and west interest. Many from them really devote themselves for science and act very objective. But, it is good to write about them, a west thinking concept treasure which is different from eastern tradition, known with Oxidentalism.
