Abstract

A glass house experiment was conducted at Forage Crop Science Laboratory of Animal Agriculture Faculty of Diponegro University. The series of experiment at soil salinity and acidity stress with level treatment T0, T1, T2 and T3 were 0; 1,5; 3,0; and 4,5 % of C soil organic increased respectively. The elephant grass was planted at 50 cm x 50 cm distance between pot experiment. The pot culture was applied 50 kg N/ha, 150 kg P205/ha and 150 kg K20 as basic fertilizer. The performance of growth component and herbage dry matter of elephant grass more tolerant at soil acidity stress than soil salinity stress. By increased of soil organic matter at 4,5 % C organic can be increased elephant grass performance at at soil acidity stress or soil salinity stress. The responsibility of C organic matter improvement to performance of elephant grass more highly at stress acidity than stress salinity. ABSTRAK Penelitian dilakukan sebagai percobaan pot di rumah kaca di Laboratorium Ilmu Tanaman Makanan Ternak Fakultas Peternakan Universitas Diponegro. Seri percobaan pada tanah cekaman salinitas dan cekaman kemasaman mendapatkan tingkat pupuk organik yang terdiri dari T0, T1, T2 dan T3 adalah 0; 1,5; 3,0; dan 4,5 % penambahan C organik tanah. Rumput gajah ditanam dengan jarak antar pot 50 cm x 50 cm. Tanaman memperoleh pupuk dasar 50 kg N/ha, 150 kg P205/ha dan 150 kg K20. Penampilan komponen pertumbuhan dan produksi bahan kering hijauan rumput gajah lebih toleran terhadap cekaman kemasaman dibanding cekaman salinitas. Peningkatan kandungan bahan organik tanah sampai tingkat 4,5 % C organik dapat meningkatkan penampilan rumput gajah baik pada tanah cekaman salinitas maupun cekaman kemasaman. Responsibilitas peningkatan C organik tanah terhadap penampilan rumput gajah lebih tinggi pada tanah cekaman kemasaman dibanding salinitas.
