Abstract

Education is one of the important components for the advance of a nation. Therefore, the components, which can affect the advancement of eductaion, such as teacher, principal, salary (incentive) and so forth, should be concerned. The principal i s one of the important components to improve quality of education, especially for improving teacher performance. In addition to the leadership of principal, there is a presumption that theacher’s performance is influenced by incentives received by teachers. This study uses secondary data as much as 162 respondents (teachers) in a private vocational school in District Jatinegara, East Jakarta. This study analyzes the relationship between principal leadership and incentives for teacher performance by using path analysis. Analyses performed with two-­‐path model. The first model describes the indirect effect of school leadership o n teacher performance (through variable incentives). The result shows a direct and real impact of school leadership on teacher performance at 0,400 while the indirect effect of teacher incentives pass of 0.366. Direct and tangible effect of teacher incentives is 0.530 on teacher performance.. The second model describes the direct effect of principal leadership and teacher incentives. The first model is better than the second model, it means that teacher performance ethos is indirectly influenced by the leadership of principal through teacher incentives.
