Abstract
As result of the spread of English to many parts of the world Engslish can be grouped into three circles : as a native language, as a second language, and as an international language. English in Asian countries has been diffused and adapted into local cultures, called Singlish (Singapore), Manglish (Malaysia), Chinglish (China). Thus, English can be a common language on a multinational basis only when its cultural diversity is accepted. In other words, a common language has to be a multicultural language. As English is a multicultural language, then, the issue of diversity management is imperative to be taken into account through intercultural awareness. To understand English as a multicultural language in Asian countries, Intercultural Literacy should be improved by studying metaphors of everyday language. Keywords : English, international language, multicultural, literacy, metaphor
