Abstract

The aim of this paper is to give a comprehensive review of School Based Curriculum which started in 2006. The implementation seems not to run well due to some factors such as the teacher's teaching competence, time consuming for developing teaching materials for the local needs, no detailed information in School Based Curriculum needed by the teachers. Accordingly, the teachers were confused and they did not understand what is meant by communicative competence. This short essay tries to elaborate the change of paradigm in language education, the emergence of Competence Based Curriculum and School Based Curriculum which are quite confusing for a number of teachers, and a brief SWOT analysis of KTSP focusing on three aspects (human resources, curriculum content, and facilities). Key words : paradigm, Competence Based Curriculum, School Based Curriculum, language education, swot analysis.
