Abstract

ABSTRACT Clean water is very important for human being, either for daily or other requirements. There are many ways that the people fulfill their needs for clean water, among others are potable water supply (PDAM), well water (air sumur), and both sources. In general potable water service is little bit low, therefore many customers are not satisfied, included for the customers in Bengkulu. Related to the case above, it may be important to study community satisfaction for the potable water services. This satisfaction may be known from the quality, continuity, and pressure of water’s supply. It is expected that the water quality is allowable as standard, either physical, chemical, or bacteriological for potable water supply. Water continuity, it is expected that the potable water running continually to their home 24 hours a day. While water pressure means the pressure is required as standard for potable water supply (1 atm). The study used descriptive-analytic method, where the existing condition (clean water supply) is comprehensively investigated, as well the phenomenon of community satisfaction will be proved, including their variables may involved on the level of satisfaction. The data were collected with stratified random sampling technique. The number of sample was about 15 % from each population stratum, i.e. potable water consumers, well, and both sources. Result of the study showed that clean water supply, both potable and well waters, in “BTN Padang Harapan” housing have a quality, which it is allowable to be used as standard for potable water. As well, running water continuity, it is informed that the customers fill satisfy. The water is running through out the year, both in the dry and the wet season, although the water pressure is lower than 1 atm. As the result, it is suggested that such socialization for PDAM water, may be needed. In addition, it is also proved that community satisfaction is influenced by the variable factors, i.e. water quality, water continuity, and water pressure. The most factor which affected on potable water service is water continuity, while for the well is the water colour. From the three types of clean water customers, it is reported that although they have already satisfied with water supply in their houses, but they tend to be happier using potable water (PDAM) than well water (air sumur), due to uncertainty of well water supply during the dry period.
