The main cause of this maternal death was 22 people due to hemorrhage (31.17%). Location of the death was mostly in the hospital; it was 58 mothers (82.06%). Two mothers were died at home (2.86%). Based on the time of death, it was found that 29 mothers died in the phase III (37.18%) of the delivery process, and 39 mothers died in phase IV (50.4%) of the delivery process. Pre survey results showed that normal delivery care (APN) trained and untrained midwives work performance were not optimal. Training on normal delivery care in Wonosobo district was done in 2006-2010. Total of the APN trained midwives were 277, and APN untrained midwives were 56. The aim of this research was to identify the difference in work performance and related factors between APN trained and untrained midwives in the active management of phase III and IV of delivery process in Wonosobo. This was an observational research using quantitative method and cross sectional approach. Data was collected by distributing a structured questioner to APN trained midwives and untrained APN midwives. The sample size was 62 people: 31 APN midwives and 31 non APN midwives. Univariate analysis was conducted using descriptive frequency and proportion; bivariate analysis was done by applying independent t-test. It can be concluded that there is no difference in the variables: age, education and working period. There is difference between APN and non APN midwives on variables: employment status, work performance, knowledge, attitude, motivation and perception on workload. . It is suggested to the Wonosobo district health office that APN training for midwives is still needed, and APN curriculum review in the educational institution is needed. Key words : APN and non APN midwives’ work performance in active management phase III and IV of delivery. Bibliography : 37 books, 2000-2010
