Abstract

This study intends to narrate procedures in teaching the ballad stanza of John Petrucci's Hollow Years. The ballad stanza is a quatrain in alternate four lines with three-accent iambic meter. In the stanza only the second and fourth lines thyme. John Petrucci's Hollow Years is a song lyric and is analyzed of its stanzas, involving a story the lyric tells. The analysis incorporates how to teach the song lyric to students as well as how to examine elements of poetic expression in the lyric.
