Abstract
This article represents a study on the relationship between the Indonesian indigenous press and the Dutch colonial government, especially in the second and third decades of the 20th century. Although the Indonesian indigenous press emerged and developed in the liberal era, Dutch colonia government still put into effect on many suppressive laws. This study shows that although the Indonesian press lived in suppressive atmosphere, it dared to perform a social responsibility function to get better life and freedom of the Indonesian nation and land.
