ANALISIS TINGKAT EFISIENSI BANK UMUM SYARIAH (BUS) DAN UNIT USAHA SYARIAH (UUS) DI INDONESIA DENGAN METODE DATA ENVELOPMENT ANALYSIS(DEA) PERIODE 2007-2011

Abstract

Islamic Banking has developed rapidly in the period 2007-2011, as shown by an increase in some of performance indicators value in Islamic Bank, they are deposits, financing, and total assets. However, Islamic banks are still experiencing inconsistencies efficiency in its operations. This research have purpose to analyze the efficiency of Sharia Commercial Bank (BUS) and Sharia Business Unit (UUS) in Indonesia and compare the efficiency of BUS and UUS during the period 2007-2011. There are 10 Islamic banks which used as samples of this research consist of 3 Sharia Commercial Bank (BUS) and 7 Sharia Business Unit (UUS) that choosed by purposive sampling. This research uses Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method. An Decision Making Unit (DMU) said to be efficient if the value of efficient achieve a perfect efficient (100 percent), on the contrary if the value of the efficiency is less than 100 percent of the DMU is considered inefficient. Variables in this research were selected based on the intermediation approach. Input variables consist of deposits, assets, and labor costs, and output variables consist of financing and other operating income. To determine differences in the efficiency of Sharia Commercial Bank (BUS) and Sharia Business Unit (UUS), this research used independent sample t-test. The results of analysis using DEA method showing that during period 2007-2011 BUS and UUS tend to increase efficiencies although fluctuating with an average efficiency of 93.09 percent for BUS and 97.31 percent for UUS. Finding of independent sample t-test analysis showing that there is no difference in efficiency score between BUS and UUS during the 2007-2011 period.
