Abstract
Soil conditioner is materials that added to the soil. Soil conditioner capable to improve soil structure, water holding capacity and infiltration. Therefore the growth of plants will be enhanced. The addition of soil conditioner will increase the field capacity and growth of plant. The aim of this research was to study the effect soil conditioner on the field capacity and growth of green peas that were planted in sandy and clay soil. The soil conditioner was used in this research consisted of two different species of aquatic plants, Hydrilla verticillata and Salvinia molesta. The research was conducted in the laboratory plant physiology department of Biology faculty of Mathematics and Natural sciences Diponegoro University. A factorial experiment was arranged in randomized complete design with three replication. The first factor was soil texture (sandy and clay soil). Second factor was soil conditioner (control, Hydrilla and Salvinia). Research result showed that addition of Hydrilla and Salvinia increased field capacity, in sandy and clay soil. Addition of Hydrilla and Salvinia increased shoot length, number of leaf, fresh and dry weight of green peas both in sandy and clay soil.
