Abstract
This paper deals with the representation of women in the printed media. The data, in the form of news, were collected from seven local newspapers, published in July-August 2007, in Central Java province. The research reported that women were still represented in the standard of patriarchal values. Most news published in the local newspapers under study did not show that the media coverage was sensitive to women's rights.
