Abstract

The role of women readers has not yet been final. Their role as readers has been considered problematic since feminist scholar and activist propose that women have the very right to define herself and to interpret their own lives. This paper explores the possibility for women to have their own standpoint as women writers and readers. Firstly, it discusses how male writers and scholars have inadequate, not to say unfair, viewpoint towards women. Male literary writers, for example, do not present the image of women characters positively. Second, this paper offers and alternative approach for women readers to have their own interpretation. Finally, women readers have long been taught to read themselves in patriarchal point of view. To alter patriarchy point of view, women need to use the standpoint of women in order to uncover the false image of themselves that the male writers create previously
