Abstract

ABSTRAKSI Citizen journalism semakin berkembang di Indonesia. Jika para jurnalis media mainstream memiliki wadah PWI dan AJI, maka para pewarta warga memiliki organisasi bernama Persatuan Pewarta Warga Indonesia (PPWI). Dalam pewadahan citizen journalist tersebut memunculkan pertanyaan, tentang motif dibalik berdirinya PPWI dan kepentingan-kepentingan yang melatarbelakangi munculnya PPWI. Untuk menjawab pertanyaan tersebut maka dilakukan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Untuk melihat organisasi PPWI baik dari elemen organisasi, karakteristik, fungsi dan manajemennya maka Teori Komunikasi Organisasi Littlejohn dan Karl Weick menjadi penting dalam konteks ini. Selain itu digunakan juga Teori Citizen Journalism dan Teori New Media. Dari hasil penelitian disimpulkan, terdapat beberapa kepentingan ekonomi, politik dan sosial di balik berdirinya PPWI. Dan keberadaan PPWI belum dapat menguatkan proses demokratisasi di Indonesia. Para pewarta warga yang tergabung dalam PPWI memiliki umur yang bervariasi, 26-50 tahun, tingkat pendidikan, rata-rata lulusan SMA, profesi cukup beragam, yaitu mahasiswa, guru, dosen, wiraswastawan, pekerja seni. Namun banyak juga anggota PPWI berasal dari wartawan profesional dan kalangan militer. Pewarta warga memanfaatkan CJ secara beragam, ada yang karena untuk bisnis, iseng, mencari teman, memperluas jaringan, dan alat untuk menyalurkan suasana hati. Saran penelitian, untuk menjadi organisasi yang tangguh dan profesional, PPWI harus menjalankan visi dan misi yang sudah ditetapkan, terutama kepada pengurus untuk tidak melenceng dari jalur yang ditetapkan, yaitu tidak mempergunakan PPWI sebagai kendaraan untuk mencapai tujuan dan kepentingan yang lain. PPWI diharapkan dapat lebih dapat mengakomodir kepentingan khalayak dalam memainkan perannya sebagai pewarta warga. Untuk pewarta warga diharapkan dapat lebih memanfaatkan CJ sebagai suatu wacana yang dapat dipergunakan bagi kepentingan publik. Media mainstream bisa lebih cerdas menyikapi kehadiran CJ. ABSTRACT The growth of citizen journalism (CJ) in Indonesia is interesting to research. If the mainstream media journalists have an organization called PWI and AJI container, then the citizen journalist has an organization called Persatuan Pewarta Warga Indonesia (PPWI). In citizen journalist organization, the question arises, how far PPWI members play an active role in producing news and information, whether PPWI and its members are sensitive issues of professionalism, and how its members behave towards ethical issues, and so on. To answer that question then conducted a qualitative descriptive study. To see PPWI organizations from both the elements of the organization, characteristics, functions and management then the Theory of Organizational Communication is important in this context. Also used also Theory of Citizen Journalism and New Media Theory. The results of the study concluded that the existence of PPWI not been able to strengthen the democratization process in Indonesia. The citizen journalist who joined in PPWI have a varied age, 26-50 years, education level, the average high school graduates, the profession is quite different, namely student, teacher, lecturer, entrepreneur, arts workers. But many are also members of PPWI from professional journalists and the military. CJ utilize citizen journalist is diverse, there is due to the business, for fun, make friends, expand your network, and a tool to channel the mood. Research advice, to become a strong and professional organization, PPWI must carry out its vision and mission that have been defined, especially to managers not to deviate from the specified path, is not use PPWI as a vehicle for achieving other goals and interests. PPWI expected to be more able to accommodate the interests of the audience in playing its role as a citizen journalist. To herald the citizens are expected to take better advantage of the CJ as a discourse that can be used for public interest. The mainstream media can be more intelligently respond to the presence of CJ
