Abstract

There are various resources that must be managed by a contractor, they include financial, material, equipment, human, and work method resources. These resources are minimum requirements for the completion of a project. In all construction activities, human resource plays the most important role because it controls the use of all other resources. Therefore, human resource will be analyzed in the present study. This study aims to develop a model and analyze the influence of leadership, organization climate, organization culture, communication climate, trust, work motivation, work experience, reward, and work satisfaction on the commitment and performance; and then analyze the influence of commitment on the performance of construction project managers. Next, based on the results of this analysis, variables that have dominant influence on the commitment and performance of the project construction managers will be determined. Then, this study will analyze the difference of commitment between big and small construction project managers and, finally, analyze the difference of performance between big and small construction project managers. Some methods are used in this study. First, the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), which is used to analyze the influence of leadership, organization climate, organization culture, communication climate, trust, work motivation, work experience, reward, and work satisfaction on the commitment and performance, and then the influence of commitment on the performance of construction project managers. Second, Discriminant Analysis, which is used to analyze the difference of commitment between big and small construction project managers and to analyze the difference of performance between big and small construction project managers. Finally, the Delphi Method, is used for validation by simulating and applying the model. The results of study indicate that leadership, organization climate, organization culture, communication climate, trust, motivation, work experience, reward, and work satisfaction have a positive and significant influence on the commitment, and then the commitment has a positive and significant influence on the performance. The results of analysis indicate that variables that have dominant influence on the performance are reward, work experience and commitment, while the variables that have dominant influence on the commitment are reward, leadership and organization climate. The results of analysis indicate that variable that discriminate the commitment between big and small construction project managers is motivation (=X6). The results of analysis indicate that variable that discriminate the performance between big and small construction project managers is motivation (=X6). Key words: Performance, Commitment, Project Manager, SEM Method, Discriminant Method, Delphi Method
