Information System Development of National Immunization Week Based On Geographical Information System for Supporting Evaluation of National Immunization Week Program in Semarang City

Abstract

National Immunization Week is an event in which every baby including infant who lives in Indonesia is immunized by polio vaccine without considering status of previous immunization. A goal of National Immunization Week is to cut transmission of wild poliovirus and to improve babies’ immunity to it. A success of National Immunization Week implementation in Semarang City needs a support from varies aspects including aspects of recording and reporting. Therefore, it needs data and information quickly, precisely, and accurately as a basic of making a decision. At this time, collecting of data is still done manually, causes un-completed data, and must be re-confirmed. Beside that, the current information system of National Immunization Week has not covered geographical distribution and description of National Immunization Week implementation. Aim of this research was to result information system of National Immunization Week based on Geographical Information System for supporting evaluation of National Immunization Week Program in Semarang City. Type of this research was qualitative using quasi-experimental design. Subject was the program manager of National Immunization Week at Semarang City Health Office and at selected health center. Object was process of information in system of National Immunization Week at the health center and Semarang City Health Office. Collecting of data was done through observation and interview. Development of system was based on the steps of FAST (Framework for the Application of System Techniques). Result of this research shows that the situation using the old system was as follows: recording and reporting was carried out manually; data were recorded on form of National Immunization Week; a report was presented as a number; and sending of data was often un-completed. The situation using the new system is as follows: reporting of data using the new system is quicker and more accurate than reporting of data using the old system; and geographical distribution and mapping of National Immunization Week result can be known. The old system was un-computerized. Information System Development of National Immunization Week Based On Geographical Information System can fulfill necessity of information and data basis in accordance with level of management. The new system should be applied at Semarang City Health Office accompanied by supporting of resources as responsible person of data basis.
