Abstract
This study is to analyse many factors which are supposed to form workers' consciousness in the Dutch colonial era, especially in Semarang. This study explains that certain factors, that are status, loan, education, housing, health, ideology (especially socialism, communism, and nation-alism) are the important factors to awaken the workers' consciousness in this city. key words: Semarang, workers' consciousness, Dutch colonial era.
