Abstract

Background : The cigarette smoke contain free radicals (tar,H2O2,NO,etc).They can increase the forming of NO peritoneum macrophage more than usual .So, it’s very important to use exogenous antioxidant such as Noni (Morinda citrifolia L) to balance the number of oxidant/free radical and antioxidant. Aim: The aim of the study was to prove the effect of giving Noni juice in Nitric Oxide production peritoneum macrophage in Wistar mice which were exposure by cigarette smoke. Method: This research used male wistar mice as object of experiment. All of mice were exposured by cigarette smoke for 30 days. There were 4 groups. Each group consisted of 5 mice. control(K): without Noni juice Treated Group 1 :1 ml of Noni juice (P1) Treated group 2 : 2 mls of Noni juice(P2) Treated group 3 :4 mls of Noni juice (P3) Noni juice were given 30 minutes after exposured by cigarette smoke. All mice were terminated on 31th days. The dependence variable that measured was NO production peritoneum macrophage with ELISA reader. Result: ANOVA test got p=0.000. Post Hoc test , there were significant difference of treated group 2 and 3 to control group (p=0.036 and p=0.001). There was no difference between treated group 1 and control group (p=0.271). There were differences in treated group 1 to treated group 2 and 3 (p=0.003 and p=0.000). Between treated group 2 and 3 there was no significant difference (p=0.075). Conclusion: Noni juice influenced the production of NO peritoneum macrophage in Wistar mice which were exposured by cigarette smoke.
