Background: The use of X rays in medicine is as a tool for diagnostics and therapeutics. Radiation therapy using radiotherapy, which is also called is one way in an attempt to cope with cancer, including cancers of the head and neck. Radiation therapy provides effective results in the treatment of malignancy in cases of head and neck area, but also can cause changes in normal tissues in the oral cavity. This study aims to determine the area of head and neck radiotherapy at a dose of 20 Gy and 40 Gy to reduce the bulk saliva so it can affect the health of the teeth and oral cavity. Aim: To prove the effect of head and neck radiotherapi area to bulk saliva decrease. Methods: The study used a quasi experimental design with pre and post test design. The subjects of this study are all of the population that meets the criteria of inclusion and exclusion. This study used the subject as much as 10 cancer patients radiotherapy of head and neck area. Saliva was taken three times before radiotherapy, after giving a dose of 20 Gy and after 40 Gy. Analysis of the data was processed by a computer program and the Wilcoxon test significance level accepted when p <0.05. Results: Wilcoxon test produces a significance value of 0.005 on a volume of saliva, the saliva volume 2 of 0.004, and the volume of saliva 3 a significance value of 0.005. From these results signify the saliva volume in all three groups of p<0.05. Conclusion: There is a difference among the bulk saliva in patients before undergoing radiotherapy of head and neck area, after a total dose of 20 Gy and 40 Gy. Head and neck are radiotherapy with total dose 20 Gy and 40 Gy affect bulk of saliva. Key words: head and neck cancer, radiotherapy, the bulk of saliva
