Abstract

ABSTRACT Semarangis ametropolitancitythat has quite a lot of industrial areas inscatteredlocation, especially alongthe north coast. According tothe Spatial Planof Semarang, BWKIV which is located in District Genuk,had been delineated in theprimary functionfor industrial activities, transportation andaquaculturecenter. In Genukindustrial zonethere are 4Industrial Area(KI) and someindustriesoutside ofKIwith variouskinds andtypes ofindustries, which are located at the Villageof TerboyoWetan, Trimulyo, Genuksari, GebangsariandMuktiharjoLor. The development ofthe industrial areaand itsactivityis associated withresource use, water, energy andpollutionimpacts. Regional incomeareasfromindustial sectorand its contributionto GDP, whichis quitesignificant,oftenconsidered moreimportant than maintaining sustainable development.Utilization ofresources,especially land, water and energy,are often moredominantthan theconsideration of conserving thecarrying capacity per se.But nowthe idea ofGDP as the main indicatorof developmentachievementhas beendeprecatedbecause it does notincorporatesustainability indicatorssuch asnatural resources andsafeguarding ofits assets. This researchaimed toevaluate thecarrying capacity of theindustrialzonein GenukSemarang, seen from theaspect ofland suitability,availability of waterand energy and the method usedis thesurveymethod. Scrutinizingfrom the point of view onland suitability, potential and needsof water, it was foundthat thecarrying capacity ofGenuk IndustrialZonehas surpassed it’s biocapacity. To maintainsustainable development ofGenuk industrialzones, mitigationis recommendedto addressa variety ofinhibiting factors such as tidal, flooding, landsubsidence, inadequate drainage and environmental pollution.
