Abstract

Background : Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory disesase of the pilosebadeous follicles, characterized by comedones, papules, pustules, nodules, anda often scars. Acne vulgaris is a common disease with co,plex pathogenesis. Tempe has a lof of antioxidans that can inhibit the aging process, one of which is the isoflavones have the same activity as estrogen in the body. Estrogen in the body are not directly reduce the production of sebum, which is one process of acne vulgaris. Methods : this study was using cross sectional design. Samples of the experiment is 60 sudents that studying Diponegoro University Faculty of Economy in semarang that full fills the inclusion criteria (registered as a student of economic faculty of the University of Diponegoro in Semarang, aged between 18-25 years, suffering from acne vulgaris, fill out the informed consent). The data that gathered wasa primary data gainedfrom the quesioner fills and results. The data then analyzed wit chi square test with significance level of p<0.05. Result : Of 54 people (90%) of respondents who consume tempe be obtained (44.4%) of them suffered from acne vulgaris, while (56.4%) did not suffer from acne vulgaris, family history also affected the incidence of acne vulgaris (38.3%), period also affects the incidence of acne vulgaris (55%), the behavior of regular cleansing (95%), stress factors affect acne vulgaris (66.6%). There are relationships between tempe consumption with the incidence of acne vulgaris in young adults (p =0.024). Coclusion : the incidence of acne vulgaris in respondents who consume tempeh was found suffering from acne vulgaris (44.4%) and did not suffer from acne vulgaris (56.4%). There are relationships between tempe consumption with the incidence of acne vulgarisi n young adults. Key Words : acne vulgaris, tempe consumption
