Periodontitis is one of risk factors from stroke, because the bacterias, bactery’s products, and food that attached to the teeth infiltrating the circulation and causing vessel inflamation . After vessel inflamation’s happened, atherosclerosis occurs then lead to stroke incidence. Some studies have been prooved the correlation form periodontal disesase to stroke event, but there is no clear explanation about this relationship. So far there is no study about this topic in Kariadi Hospital, so it is necessary to held a case-control study about the correlation periodontitis and stroke event. Method: Clinical experimental study with case control design was used. This study sample were neurologic patients in the third class of neurologic ward Kariadi Hospital, Semarang. Seventy patients divided to 2 groups; 35 stroke patients group and 35 non-stoke. Periodontitis was used as independent variable and stroke patient as dependent variable. Data was analysed by SPSS for Windows 15.0 with significance value p < 0.05. Result: Periodontal index mean in stroke group was 4.37 and 3.46 for non-stroke patients, with significance value 0.013 (p < 0.05), so it could be concluded that there is significant different between stroke group and non-stroke group in periodontal index. With regression logistic test, hypertension and dental examination was confunding factor, with wald value (8.450) for hypertension and (4,024) for dental examination.
