PERBEDAAN MASALAH MENTAL DAN EMOSIONAL BERDASARKAN LATAR BELAKANG PENDIDIKAN AGAMA: Studi Kasus SMP Negeri 21 Semarang dan SMP Islam Al Azhar 14 Semarang

Abstract

Background: The gap between physical, psychological, and social changes can lead to adolescent mental emotional health problems. Mental emotional health problems weren’t followed up may evolve into mental emotional disorders. School is one of the factors that influences it and recently there are some religion-based schools. Aim: The aim of this study was to analyze the difference of mental emotional health problems based on religious education among the students of Junior High School and Islamic Junior High School. Methods: The method of this study was an observational research with cross sectional approach, began from March to July 2012. Subjects were the students in 7th and 8th SMP Negeri 21 Semarang and SMP Islam Al Azhar 14 Semarang. SDQ (Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire) and the questionnaire validating before were used to collect data. Data was analyzed by Chi-square test/ Fischer test/Kolmogorov-smirnov test. Results: The number of respondents were 140 students, consist of 70 students for each school. At SMP Negeri 21 Semarang, 11.4% students were borderline emotional symptoms and 14.3% were abnormal. At SMP Islam Al Azhar 14 Semarang, 5.7% students were borderline emotional symptoms and 10% were abnormal. The value of probability of emotional symptoms was 0.046 (p<0.05). There were no significant differences between both of schools in terms of conduct problems (p=0.346), hyperactivity problems (p=1.000), peer problems (p=1.000), total mental emotional health problems (p=0.875), and prosocial behaviour score (p=1.000). Conclusions: Emotional symptoms based on religious education in SMP Islam Al Azhar 14 Semarang is lower than SMP Negeri 21 Semarang Keywords: mental emotional health problems, SDQ, religious education.
