Abstract
Background: Dyslipidemia is abnormality of blood lipid profile. Increasing of non-HDL lipid level cause atherosclerosis. Red bean’s resistant starch and isoflavones also lactat acid bacteria in yogurt lower LDL cholesterol and LDL/HDL ratio and increase HDL cholesterol level. Red beans processing into red bean yoghurt increases the activity of isoflavones in red beans into aglikon which has higher activity in lowering LDL cholesterol levels. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of giving red bean juice , milk yogurt and red bean yoghurt on serum LDL cholesterol and HDL cholesterol level and LDL / HDL ratio of dyslipidemia rats. Methods: This research was true-experimental using post test only with control group design. Samples were male wistar rats, 2 months old, inducted dyslipidemia. The first group given milk yogurt, second red bean juice, third red bean yogurt 4ml/day. Serum LDL and HDL cholesterol level were measured by CHOD-PAP and GPO-PAP methods respectively. Normality of the data were tested by Shapiro Wilks test. Data were analyzed by paired t test, independent t test and Anova continued by Post Hoc LSD test using computer program. Result: Milk yogurt significantly (p<0.05) increases LDL and HDL cholesterol levels. The red bean juice raises HDL cholesterol level significantly (p<0.05) and increases LDL cholesterol level. Red bean yogurt lowers LDL and HDL cholesterol level and increases the LDL/HDL ratio but not significant (p>0.05). Conclusion: Red bean yogurt is the most effective product that lowers LDL cholesterol level and milk yogurt is the most effective product that increases HDL cholesterol level. However, red bean juice is most effective in maintaining the balance of LDL and HDL cholesterol level. That is characterized by a decrease in the LDL / HDL ratio.
