Abstract

Background: Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is the health problems caused by the changes of the people’s lifestyle, Thus it cause the influence of CHD risk factors is even greater. Risk factors that contribute to CHD are: non-modifiable risk factors (age, gender, heredity) and modifiable risk factors (smoking, dyslipidemia, hypertension, lack of physical activity, obesity, and diabetes). The intervention of the intensity of risk factors will lead to the accumulation of lipid and fibrous tissue in the coronary artery that progressively narrows the lumen of blood vessels. Objective: To study the relationship between the number of major risk factors of CHD with the degree of coronary lesions, in this case the score of the blood vessel were from the result of coronary angiography. Methods: The design was a descriptive analytic study, that conducted by collecting data from medical records of patients with CHD, who has catheterization in dr. Kariadi central hospital Semarang, from January to December 2011. The number of samples consist of 153 patients who have fulfil the criteria of inclusion and exclusion, where the major risk factors that studied were age, gender, smoking status, dyslipidemia status, hypertension status, and diabetes mellitus status. The data described in tables and chisquare test performed with SPSS for Windows 17.0. Results: 153 patients were enrolled in the study, with mean age was 56.25 ± 8.247 years, 122 (79.7%) males and 31 (20.3%) women. Patients with hypertension (71.2%), dyslipidemia (63.4%), diabetes mellitus (45.1%), smoking (45.1%), based on data catheterization, single vessel disease is (28.1%), double vessel disease (33.3%), and the triple vessel disease (38.6%) patients. Chi-square analysis found there is no significant correlation between the number of major risk factors with the degree of coronary lesions, (p> 0.05). Conclusion: There was no relationship between the number of major risk factors of CHD with the degree of coronary lesions. Key words: coronary heart disease, risk factors.
