Backgrounds: Children with CHD are commonly reduced their food intake that can affect growth and development. Children with cyanotic CHD may have different characteristics from those of non-cyanotic CHD, thus their development may also different. Objectives: The aim of the study is to evaluate the difference of development in children with cyanotic and non-cyanotic CHD. Methods: This was an observational study with cross sectional approach. Subjects were children with congenital heart disease who came to the Dr.Kariadi Hospital from April until June 2012. This study recruited 53 respondents; 15 children with cyanotic CHD and 38 children with non-cyanotic CHD. Developmental skills were assessed using Denver II test and characteristics data were collected by interview the child's parents. The data were analyzed by using Chi-square test. Results: Personal social skills of 73.3% in children with cyanotic CHD are normal, while in 57.9% children with non-cyanotic CHD are suspected delayed. Language, fine motor, and gross motor skills are suspected delayed in children with cyanotic and non-cyanotic CHD. By using Chi-square test, a significant difference was found in the personal social skills ( p = 0.041), while in the language, fine motor, and gross motor skills there is no significant difference (p = 0.810; p = 0.678; p = 0.220, respectively). Conclusion: A significant difference was found in the personal social skills between children with cyanotic and non-cyanotic CHD. There is no significant difference in the fine motor, language, and gross motor skills between children with cyanotic and non-cyanotic CHD.
