Abstract

BACKGROUND. The incidence of diarrhea increased every year. Breast-feeders and zinc can reduced duration of diarrhea in some research. However, granting at the same time didn’t know yet. AIM. Analyzing difference of healing duration between the children who are breastfed and received zinc in diarrhea with mild-moderate dehydration at Kariadi hospital in 2011-2012. METHODES. This research was analityc research with case control approach. 45 subject age 6-12 month in diarrhea with mild-moderat dehydration. Subject obtained from medical record at Kariadi Hospital Semarang. The subjects divided into three groups and received treatment breastfed, zinc supplementation, breastfed and zinc supplementation. Kruskal wallis and Mann WhitneyU was used to analyze the difference of duration diarrhea between three groups. RESULT. Difference of healing duration diarrhea with mild-moderate dehydration interracial groups p=0.011. Difference of healing duration diarrhea with mild-moderate dehydration between breastfed and zinc groups (p=0.172), zinc compared breastfed and zinc (p=0.078),breastfed compared breastfed and zinc groups (p=0.003). CONCLUSSION. The groups who received zinc and breastfed had shorter duration of diarrhea.There were significant difference between three groups (3,0±1,09 days). The groups who received breastfed compared breastfed and zinc have significant difference. KEYWORDS. Breastfed, zinc, healing duration diarrhea with mild-moderate dehydration
