Abstract

Distillation, the operation method of separation of a mixture or (liquids dissolve each other), based on differences in boiling point or vapor pressure of pure difference, (each of the components contained in the mixture) using a heat as power dividers / "Energy Separating Agent". Vacuum distillation is a distillation process which takes place at pressures under normal conditions is 30-35 mmHg (under 1 atm), with the aim of lowering the boiling point of the components to be separated. Ginger rhizome (Rhizoma) contains several chemical components such as water, crude fiber, starch, essential oil, oleoresin, and ash. The content of essential oils in ginger rhizomes of 1-3%. Usefulness of ginger essential oil is a raw material of soft drinks (Ginger Ale), the Pharmaceutical Industry as well as perfumes and cosmetics as a flavoring. The working principle of vacuum distillation equipment based on the phenomenon of vacuum under 1 atm in order to lower the boiling point solvent that contained ginger oil components are not damaged and the time required for the distillation of ginger oil faster. The solvent used is water. Water use based on keekonomisannya. Function of solvent is to dissolve the components of ginger oil is contained and then vaporize along with the water. From the analysis of the oil obtained distilled ginger oil is best obtained from the chohobation distillation with the volume of oil (7ml), refractive index ((1.491), yield (0.62%), density (0.881 g/ml) as well as in the polynomial graph obtained by y=-0,4357x2 + 2,8843x - 2,46 dan R2= 0,9903 due to the price of R2 is close to 1 which already meet the standard provisions EOA Essential Oil Association). Keywords: Vacuum Distillation, ginger rizhome, ginger oil
