Abstract

Rice straw is waste that is rarely utilized by the public but many containing cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. Rice straw pulp manufacturing process with caustic soda cooking was choosen because it is easy to do and very low cost operations. A waste contain high levels of cellulose which then can be used as raw material for pulp manufacture which previously had to be known in advance the operating conditions in the manufacturing process. Pulping process that used is the process by using Sodium Hidroksida (NaOH). NaOH serves to accelerate the process of cooking and heightens as well as density material serves to separate the cooking containers and other cellulose with polluter or other components in rice straw. Optimum condition that was obtained with a temperature of 120°C with time for 120 minutes in the produce pulp with a cellulose content of 35,5%. Factors that affect the pulping process is the cooking temperature, concentration, consistency, and time. keywords: rice straw, soda process
