Abstract
Background: Disorders of sex development manifesting as hypospadias in patients with 46,XY DSD require surgical treatment. Evaluation of hypospadias repair outcomes is essential for identification and treatment of complication, considering that hypospadias repair has short term and long term complications. This study was aimed to evaluate hypospadias repair outcomes in patient with 46,XY DSD, in the perspective of patient’s functional condition and satisfaction. Methods: This study was a descriptive study with prospective approach. The research subjects were chosen with consecutive sampling method from April-June 2011. The data from the subjects were collected primarily with interview and secondarily with medical record. Collected data were analyzed descriptively with computer program. Results: Twenty five of 161 patients with 46,XY DSD were included into this study. Most subjects (96%) were categorized into children-age group. Penoscrotal hypospadias is the most common type of hypospadias found in this study (52%). Twenty two subjects (88%) had good micturition function. Five subjects (20%) had less satisfaction than the others with the main reason is inadequacy of penile size. All the subjects had erection ability and four of them (16%) had angulated penis during erection. Ejaculation problem manifesting as anejaculation was found in one subject who was included into adult-age group. The difficulty of penetration during sexual intercourse could not be investigated in this study. Conclusion: Overall, majority of the subjects had encouraging functional condition and good satisfaction with hypospadias repair outcomes. Scheduled and continous follow up is needed to evaluate patient’s micturition function and sexuality aspect. Keywords: evaluation, hypospadias repair, 46,XY DSD
